Desire here is to have a broader view of the run. Not many columns and rows can fit on a single screen. If text were removed, then a cell could be only a few pixels tall and wide, allowing view of much more tests and items. Color is sufficient to indicate status. A toggle or cyclic pulldown could select "normal" vs "condensed" view.
